Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, Doctor of Science Yelizaveta Chernysh took part in the Lisbon meetings of the international project "Phosphogypsum Processing to Critical Raw Materials" (PG2CRM), which aims to study the potential of integrated use of phosphogypsum while solving environmental problems. The events took place on March 18-20, 2024 at the NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA University in Lisbon, Portugal).

In accordance with the tasks of the project "Phosphogypsum as a mineral resource for bioprocesses", Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Yelizaveta Chernysh took part in the final December meeting of the Biogas Research Team of the Czech partner university (Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague), on the basis of which she carries out research within this project. Further areas of realization and the prospect of expanding cooperation within the Horizon Europe program were identified. Significant publication activity on the project and direct field research with sampling of phosphogypsum at the dumps in Sumy region were noted.

During December 7-8, 2023, the Associate Professor of the Department, Dr. of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Ablieieva took part in Biogas Solutions Research Center (BSRC) Winter Conference (Linköping, Sweden). Biogas Solutions Research Center is a national competence center that aims to create strong, national competencies leading to industrially and socially motivated research on and development of biogas solutions. The center is administered by Linköping University, where Iryna Ablieieva is providing scientific research now as a guest researcher.

The Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies continues to actively develop international relations with foreign scientific institutions. Within the framework of cooperation with the Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland), Dr.  Roman Vaskin, the head of the Laboratory of Biogas Technologies paid a working visit to the Laboratory of Ecotechnologies of this university.

During November 13-17, 2023, the Associate Professor of the Department, Dr. Of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Ablieieva took part in the Research & Innovation Week within the framework of the MIRAI 2.0 program. MIRAI 2.0 R&I Week serves as a unique opportunity to strengthen collaboration between Sweden and Japan in research, innovation, and education. This in-person event brings together researchers, students, and university management from all 20 Swedish and Japanese MIRAI 2.0 member universities, as well as research funding agencies and policy makers. This event was hosted by Umeå University (Sweden) and sponsored by Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation.

Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh, associate professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, participated in the Riga 2023 - EUSBSR Annual Forum. 

In October of this year, Yelizaveta Chernysh, Doctor of Science, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, as a member of the program committee and chairman of the session "Ukraine - Current Challenges and Opportunities", took part in the 4th Multidisciplinary Conference for Young Researchers "Energy, Sustainable Development and Society" (October 5-6, 2023, Prague, Czech Republic).

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies Yelizaveta Chernysh took part in the Plant-Soil Restoration UUKi Twinning Network Workshops, which took place on July 4-5, 2023, at the Lancaster University Campus in Leipzig, Germany.

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh took part as an official opponent in the defense of the dissertation of Ing. Ghaith Hasan on "Social and economic assessment of small-scale biogas plants in Syria" for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, which took place on 23.6.2023 at the Campus of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, Czech Republic.

The spring online school for everyone, which includes the course "EU implementation of bioenergy technologies for waste recycling" within the Jean Monnet module "Bioenergy innovations in waste management: European experience in implementing a circular economy" (BIOINWASTE) of the EU Erasmus+ program under Grant Agreement No. 101085172 (2023-2025), which will begin in mid-April, was announced by Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies Yelizaveta Chernysh. According to the results of the 2022 competition, Doctor of Science, Assoc. prof. Iryna Ablieieva was awarded the prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for young scientists and students for the best scientific works. Iryna Ablieieva took part in the competition with a scientific paper on the topic "Systematic approach to increasing the environmental safety of oil-producing areas". The work consisted of the monograph "A systematic approach to improving the environmental safety of oil-producing areas" (Ablieieva I. Yu., Plyatsuk L. D.) and four scientific articles in periodicals indexed by the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection, which are combined a single scientific problem in accordance with the scientific direction of the author's research.

The MSCA4Ukraine consortium has announced the results of the evaluation and selection of grant program participants. Funding under the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Program is provided to 124 scientists from Ukraine to continue their research in 21 host countries. Scholarships were awarded to applicant organizations from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Among the scientists who received this support is Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies Yelizaveta Chernysh. She received a grant to conduct postdoctoral research at the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action grant program.

The virtual mobility program "Sustainable Biotechnology and Environmental Protection" was aimed at improving the quality of education, meaningful exchange between teachers and students of universities of different linguistic cultures in geographically remote regions.

Associate Professor of our department, Doctor of Science, Yelizaveta Chernysh took part in the National Forum "Waste Management in Ukraine: Legislation, Economics, Technology", which took place on November 24-25, 2022.

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Technologies Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh presented a joint work with Czech colleagues on the topic "Biopotential of agricultural waste: production of biofertilizers and biofuels". The author's team also included other academic staff of the department, in particular senior lecturer Dr. Iryna Ableyeva, PhD students Viktoriia Chubur and Polina Skvortsova.

Senior teacher of the department, Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Iryna Ablieieva has received an individual grant under the program of non-resident scholarships for Ukrainian scientists from Universities for Ukraine (U4U). The purpose of this program is to match Ukrainian researchers and scientists (qualified applicants) with vacant sponsors (colleges, universities or research institutes) who provide remote financial support for research activities to each selected participant in the form of unconditional grants.

Roman VASKIN, Associated Professor at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, Sumy State University (Ukraine) took part in project ERASMUS+ No. 2021-1-PL01-KA131-HED-000003560 at the Department of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy, University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The program lasted from October 3 till October 7, 2022.

Postgraduate student of 2 years of study Skvortsova Polina began her internship at the University of Linköping (Sweden) within the framework of the Erasmus + program. Academic mobility involves studying the course "Sustainable Development in a Global Context" and gaining practical experience in the biogas laboratory while taking the course "Research Skills in Environmental Science".

Our departmental team developed the logo of the project "Bioenergy innovations in waste management: European experience in implementing a circular economy" (BIOINWASTE - 10108512-2 It reflects the main conceptual features of project implementation: the full cycle of theoretical and experimental research; modeling of biofuel production processes with waste recycling and obtaining a number of useful biofuel products; defining economic strategy for biofuel sector at the local level in different regions.
