The MSCA4Ukraine consortium has announced the results of the evaluation and selection of grant program participants. Funding under the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Program is provided to 124 scientists from Ukraine to continue their research in 21 host countries. Scholarships were awarded to applicant organizations from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Among the scientists who received this support is Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies Yelizaveta Chernysh. She received a grant to conduct postdoctoral research at the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action grant program.

As of November 11, 2022, the MSCA4Ukraine program has received more than 400 applications from 28 countries, and another 198 applications were received by November 25, 2022. Applications were evaluated by almost 400 independent reviewers from over 25 countries and across a range of disciplines based on adapted MSCA evaluation criteria. Final decisions were made by a Selection Committee comprised of established scholars from various academic fields from EU member states and Horizon Europe associated countries, as well representatives of organisations experienced in assisting researchers at risk.

The topic of Dr. Chernysh research fellowship: "Phosphogypsum as a mineral resource for bioprocesses". Joint research on phosphogypsum as a nutrient resource for microbial associations during organic waste bioconversion is planned; development of a taxonomic classification and review of metabolic pathways for the transformation of phosphogypsum compounds using the electronic databases KEGG, MetaCyc and EzTaxon; evaluation of the properties of the resulting organic-mineral compositions as fertilizers using the methodological approach to assessing the life cycle of products. It is planned to exchange experience with colleagues through joint participation in seminars, scientific discussions, discussions on the prospects for expanding cooperation, and the implementation of research and development work in terms of scaling up the process of anaerobic co-processing of waste at the production level.

Information note

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions is a component of the Horizon Europe Program. The purpose of the competitions in this area is to support the mobility of staff within the framework of joint research or innovation activities, as well as to stimulate cooperation in various sectors (public and private) between educational (academic) and non-academic institutions around the world. The European Commission has officially announced the launch of the MSCA4Ukraine plan under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action program. Its goal is to help scientists from Ukraine continue their work in academic or non-academic organizations in Europe. This plan will also enable them to resume their work in Ukraine in order to rebuild the country's scientific and innovation potential.
