On December 16, 2024, an event dedicated to one of the most pressing environmental issues — waste sorting — was held at the Hub on Kuznechna Street in Sumy. Organized by the "City of Smart People" team, the event brought together leading experts who emphasized that proper waste management is a crucial step toward preserving the environment and creating a comfortable urban space.
During November 28-29, 2024, the Associate Professor of the Department, Dr. of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Ablieieva participated in Biogas Solutions Research Center (BSRC) Winter Conference (Linköping, Sweden). Biogas Solutions Research Center is a national competence center that aims to create strong, national competencies leading to industrially and socially motivated research on and development of biogas solutions. The center is administered by Linköping University, where Iryna Ablieieva is providing scientific research now as a guest researcher.
On October 1, the project “Biogas Partnership” (BioPart): co-creating a pathway to boost biogas solutions in the Baltic Sea Region" was launched. One of the partner organizations is Sumy State University, represented by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies. This project is implemented within the framework of the Baltic Sea Neighborhood Program and financed by the Swedish Institute.
Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, participated in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) 2024 Annual Forum.
The 15th EUSBSR Annual Forum, organized in Visby, Sweden on 30-31 October, invited participants to engage, co-create, and network to reinforce and further develop cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond. All in all, the forum attracted 650 registered participants from 20 countries.
On November 15, 2024, the hybrid trilateral meeting was held at BioResources and Technology (BRT) research team (BioResources & Technology), Czech University of Life Sciences Prague to extend the agreement on cooperation and academic exchange between the Department of Ecology and Environmental ProtectionTechnologies of Sumy State University and the Institute of Low Temperature Science of Hokkaido University (About ILTS | ILTS, Hokkaido University). The Japanese delegation consisted of Prof. Manabu Fukui and Director of the Institute Prof. Naoki Watanabe (Hokkaido University), science center engineer Naoki Sogawa (Honda R&D Co.,Ltd.).
Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies at Sumy State University, Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh, moderated the Climate and Sustainability scientific session at the 5th International Multidisciplinary Conference of Young Researchers (MCYR) 2024, where she is also a member of the program committee. We would like to remind you that Yelizaveta Chernysh is currently a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the BioResources and Technology (BRT) research team at the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague.
Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Technologies at Sumy State University, currently a member of the Biogas Research Team at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, had the opportunity to study modern methods of phosphogypsum analysis at a partner university in the research team of Prof. Jose Miguel Nieto at University of Huelva (Spain). The visit training was two weeks duration (21 May- 3June 2024) and realized within the framework of the project "Phosphogypsum as a mineral resource for bioprocesses". The visit training also was realized within the framework of the project "Phosphogypsum as a mineral resource for bioprocesses". Yelizaveta Chernysh acknowledges the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) with funding from the European Union under the MSCA4Ukraine framework.
Sumy State University, represented by the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, became a participant in the project within the framework of the Baltic Sea Neighborhood Program, financed by the Swedish Institute. The consortium also included participants from Sweden (Linköping University) as the main applicant, Poland (Poznań University of Life Sciences and the Polish Biomethane Organization) and Ukraine (Bioenergy Association of Ukraine).

The authors' team of the department of ecology and nature protection technologies of Sumy State University, consisting of 4th-year students Nadia Kulyk, 2nd-year PhD student Iryna Sipko and 4th-year PhD student Polina Skvortsova, under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department, Dr. of Eng. Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Ablieieva participated in the All-Ukrainian competition of scientific works of students and young scientists "Actual problems and innovative technologies in the field of civil defense and environmental security for the post-war recovery of Ukraine". The competition of scientific works in the field of civil and environmental safety was held as part of the conference during the 20th Jubilee International Specialized Exhibition "Protection Technologies/Pozhtech".
