During November-December 2023, Associate professors of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Ablieieva and Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Roman Vaskin participated in training courses on improving the skills of workers in the bioenergy sector within the framework of the EBRD/GEF project "Knowledge Management Program for the Development of Sustainable bioenergy". The executor of the project is Biomass Scientific Research Center.

The goal of the project is to improve the access of Ukrainian companies in the bioenergy sector, universities to modern knowledge, practical experience, and innovations by introducing a high-quality knowledge management program that will increase the efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of the bioenergy sector.

The training took place in four thematic blocks: Production of biogas and biomethane, Use of biomass to produce heat energy and combined production of heat and electricity, Creation, and operation of effective value chains in bioenergy, in particular issues of biomass logistics, General issues of the development of the bioenergy sector. The acquired knowledge is useful both for conducting scientific research, identifying promising topics, and for the development of the biogas network in Ukraine.

It is worth noting that the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies has created and developed a scientific direction in the field of bioenergy, in particular, on the basis of the Laboratory of Biogas Technologies, research is conducted on the intensification of biogas production, the use of digestate as a biofertilizer, and soil restoration. In addition, the teachers of the department (Yelizaveta Chernysh, Iryna Ablieieva, Roman Vaskin, and Iryna Vaskina) have cooperation and provide joint scientific research in this field with foreign universities in the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Poland.
