On 29 January 2025, the Department of Oil and Gas Refining Techniques of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in collaboration with the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies of Sumy State University conducted a scientific workshop "Sustainable Biological Technology for Biofuel Production and Environmental Protection". The event took place at the Hall of Continuing Education at the Samawah Technical Institute, part of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. The course was attended online by Dr. Yevhen Bataltsev from Sumy State University and in person by Idris Hamoudi Ahmed, Head of Refining Techniques at the Institute, along with several members of the institute.

The course covered a range of topics, including biomass, biohydrogen, and fourth-generation biofuels, which are considered the most efficient and least harmful among biofuels. The primary objective of the course was to explore modern technologies for biomass-based biofuel production, including different generations of biomass fuel and biohydrogen production methods and types.

Additionally, the course focused on the utilization of organic and biomass waste, converting it into clean and environmentally friendly fuels as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. This approach plays a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting eco-friendly energy solutions.

Furthermore, Dr. Yevhen Bataltsev introduced an open training course "Sustainable Biotechnology and Environmental Protection" to students and colleagues from Iraq. This course was developed within the framework of the MSCA4Ukraine program with the support of the European Union, with Associate Professor Dr. Yelizaveta Chernysh serving as the contact person.
